Website SEO Checklist for Small Businesses
Updated 10/14/2026
Small business websites don't need complicated SEO to be found. Most problems come from a few basics that are easy to check and fix.
Fix first
- Make sure important pages aren't marked noindex by mistake.
- Fix broken internal links and pages that return errors.
- Serve the site over HTTPS.
- Give every page a clear title and one main (H1) heading.
Improve next
- Write a unique meta description for each main page.
- Add descriptive alt text to meaningful images.
- Give each product or service its own page instead of one long list.
Help customers act
- Link to a Contact page from every page, with clickable phone and email links.
- Show your address or service area if you serve local customers.
FADRO's guidance for "General business or SME" websites reports whether contact links and related pages were observed on the pages it inspected — it never claims something is missing from parts of your site it didn't read.
